With Wifi-AC have reached a new concept of router retries to be the king of our network and back to be versatile. Besides, with cloud integration and high-performance hardware.

Introduction

Wifi-AC has been established as the perfect solution for high-speed wireless communications that allow finally take advantage of faster internet connections or streaming HD video or just connection speeds and have much less to envy connectivity cable. With the maturity of this technology are also reaching new generations of routers again take center stage in our network by introducing many more features and benefits professionals in the home environment solutions. The ASUS RT-RT-AC68U is a good example of what I say and now I know why.Review ASUS RT-AC68U

Hardware Features

Think of everything that you would ask a Router, to have at home, and certainly by your wishes are ambitious you will find on the ASUS RT-AC68U of the router that you walk or just wishing for looking. It is a marvel of hardware, has a careful, detail design and quality is solvent in major benefits. One of the best routers we can find in the market and also one of the most complete.
The ASUS RT-AC68U everything is outstanding, especially their hardware. It has a dual core processor (ARM) that manages to give life to a router where all is power and speed. It comes with 128MB of Flash memory to an elaborate ROM and 256MB of RAM for multitasking quality. It has the hardware of a modern high performance NAS.
Is accompanied by a first physical connectivity with two USB ports where one of them is USB 3.0 and one USB 2.0. In addition we find a four-port gigabit switch and WAN port also gigabit.
ASUS RT-AC68U back-side Wireless connectivity comes by an AC Wifi-generation chipset with dual channel, 2.4 and 5GHz, with capacity of up to AC 1300mbps in 5GHz mode and up to 600Mbps in 2.4GHz mode. The bands are independent, so we can diversify use of bandwidth, and has a system of high power antennas (3x3) MIMO directional functionality.
Your processor has a processing capacity of up to 300,000 concurrent sessions, crashes or problems in P2P or large numbers of users are over, you can actually manage downloads by itself, plus many other functions ranging from control of printers, network storage, streaming, global connectivity, IPTV, etc.. Let's get a bit of detail.

Neutral Router

ASUS RT-AC68U side-viewThe RT-AC68U is a complete router-level hardware and rides a complete software system that makes it a very versatile neutral router. We can use it for both ADSL, FTTH, fiber + coax, etc connections. But in some cases be dependent on an intermediate modem. This happens with all neutral routers. This model also allows the use of multiple WAN simultaneously balancing functions. We can use the WAN connector and an additional LAN connector further also can use 3G/4G connections via adapter connected by USB port. We can also use it as a VPN server in addition to other common features such as DHCP, NAT, Firewall, etc..

Another of its renovated facilities, thanks to the higher power of your processor, it is able to download center and streaming media center addition to our global storage network. Through its USB 3.0 connector we can have very high both Wifi and Wifi-N-AC connections speeds. In fact our performance tests on Wifi are exceptional and hardware has allowed any USB 3.0 drive connected we develop full power of speed reading and writing.

The RT-AC68U has a vertical design to maximize your wireless coverage. 2.4 mode, by its nature, will give us more coverage thanks to the new antenna system, and 5GHz give us more speed. The AC mode only works at 5GHz. On the front find various LEDs to indicate us how each physical connector, including USB, besides also the wireless modes 2.4 and 5GHz. On the side buttons have quick access to the WPS pairing and activation and deactivation of the Wi-Fi. We also find a button on the back with which we can disable the LEDs on the router. It seems silly but certainly more than one user will appreciate it.

Cloud and other benefits

Any modern router worth its salt needs to have its own cloud technology that allows us, thanks to the manufacturer's location services, access to the functionality of our router from anywhere from multiple devices. In the case of ASUS will have the ASUS AICloud technology. A Cloud system that allow us to access data from USB drives connected to your router, to stream and upload and download files. Has customers for major mobile platforms (iOS and Android) and is completely free. If we have a connection bandwidth we can watch movies, play music and more.

This new generation benefits from advances in the standard Broadcom Wifi-N veteran to reach speeds of up to 600Mbps in the 5GHz band. This does not mean we can use 1900mpbs through a single connection, the maximum speed Wifi-AC is 1300mbps, but we can take advantage of that total flow using two bands simultaneously.
One of the best letters of this router is its web interface and configuration utilities that make the implementation of this router a real cinch. Anyone can put it to work in a few minutes with one of their "wizards" but it misses the advanced settings option from the start, giving options is never bad.
The interface is very visual, like the UEFI bios of the same brand, attractive and accessible with good amount of information and direct links to the most important functions in each section. Monitored and has a good system log and lots of options for having an almost professional management of our network.
Within this extensive functionality I like the easy way to manage and direct guests in our network. We can quickly limit these guests to Internet access only, unable to see or visit our private devices. We can also set up a VPN server with MPPE encryption to access our network directly and confidentially as if it were located in the world from anywhere.

Features of the first order, as well as a powerful QOS-sensitive use, which keep the primary priority services but leave the rest in the background when you really have bandwidth and availability.

Wifi-AC. Performance

The storage management capabilities of this generation of routers makes it increasingly more tempting to use them as a means to save other expensive storage devices such as NAS modern amenities. We can connect a USB 3.0 drive, it can even be self-powered by the router and save us a device on our network. The processor of this router has power to manage our high-speed network, our Internet connectivity, protect our devices while moving large amounts of data at speeds of USB 3.0. Here are some of our performance tables both Wifi-N, Wireless-AC and Gigabit Ethernet router using this as a means of storage management. We also added another table moving the same amount of data to a high-performance NAS based on Intel Atom processor. Always using the wired or wireless connectivity of this router.

With these speeds can, for example, make your broadband connection with 100-200mb Wifi, or playing HD content, several at a time, to any wireless device. Wifi and AC is the real future of this technology and a quantum leap that will be adopted by all kinds of devices over the coming months.

Analysis and Conclusion

There are three or four generation routers with Broadcom chipset that have flooded the market in recent days. We have this ASUS, Netgear, Linksys ... all brands align with this chipset and introducing modern ARM processors with frequencies between 300-600MHz able to make a qualitative leap in what we know as home router.

It is early to see what the winner of this generation ASUS routers but certainly is not positioned as it has been in generations. This router is powerful and accessible at the same time with a firmware worked quite well and even allows constant development, the most seasoned users, changes of frequency (more) on the embedded processor. Details you definitely like the target audience of a high performance router that in turn means taking a backseat to domestic NAS with performance storage management quite elaborate for a router.
