After I already use a MyBookII, My Book Live and My Book Live Duo NAS on the network, I have now as a support for a single laptop (Windows 7 Pro) is ok with music files in addition, the WD My Book external hard drive with 4TB USB 3.0 into operation taken (type WDBFJK0040HBK-EESN). instructions for installing and setting up is really easy -. although I am not a computer professional , the delivery enclosed obtained a short guide that can be but really not needed. In addition, located on the plate a detailed guide as a PDF file. The advertised by the manufacturer software was already installed on my plate. Practically, in this example, the automatic backup software WD Smart Ware Pro. Inside is for me a "WD40EZRX Caviar Green 64MB cache and SATA III." The plate itself is NTFS-formatted for Windows but can be reformatted for Mac OS X. As I'm used to it by WD, this device also is completely silent, running without much vibration and is externally very well made. The case in high-gloss black already looks chic, but is somewhat prone regarding dust and fingerprints. Bit of a shame, I find that the disk has no off switch. But this is an energy management on board through which you can adjust a lot. The device runs on USB 3.0, but is also backward compatible with USB 2.0 devices. On my laptop both worked smoothly, of course, USB 3.0 is noticeably faster. Unfortunately, the included USB cable with 1m length is rather short. Here in my opinion has been saved in the wrong place. A positive note, I find that the plate can be operated password protected. a star rating I pull from for the short USB cable and the non-existent switch. The WD My Book external USB hard drive is still overall a chic, external data storage, and highly recommended!

The first impression of the plate is good, very quietly. Runs USB3 cable quite short, the connector on the board is to be vulnerable, let's see.
Important thing is to install the device driver "WD SAS Device Manager". Trying a backup with the to drive Windows 7 own backup solution failed after a few seconds with an error message. After browsing various forums I've found the note that one the plate with the "WD Quick Formatter" - must reformat program so that smaller (Windows7 - compatible) clusters are written. (Was still back up the existing on the disk WD software ... Quick Formatter is not the way it must be downloaded from the WD website.)The Windows Backup has subsequently worked.
